The Makeistry Studio runs The Makeistry (makeistry.studio). This explains how we handle your personal information.
What we collect
- Account: your name and email. Passwords and two-factor settings are held by Amazon Cognito, not by us.
- Orders: what you bought, shipping address, and payment status. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see them.
- What you post: listings, photos, reviews, messages, reports and problem cases.
- Security: the IP address and browser of each login, so you can see where you're logged in, and of each checkout, to help detect fraud.
We don't use advertising trackers or sell your information.
Why
To run the marketplace: take orders, pay makers, ship, send order and account emails, keep the site safe, prevent fraud, and handle problems and disputes. Each paid order is checked for signs of fraud using its details, your account history and the payment provider's assessment. If an order is flagged, the maker is told why (but not your IP address) so they can decide whether to ship.
Who sees it
- Makers you buy from see your name, shipping address and messages, to fulfil your order. They don't get your email address or phone number, including when you ask for a shop's news: we send it for them, and they only see how many people asked.
- Service providers: Stripe (payments and fraud screening), Shippo and carriers (shipping labels), Amazon Web Services (logins, email, hosting of photos), and Anthropic (AI services: writing help for makers' item descriptions, and a fraud review of some orders, which includes the items, shipping address and messages you sent the maker). Anthropic processes this on our behalf and doesn't use it to train its models.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
News and offers
You choose whether The Makeistry, and each shop you buy from or follow, may send you news and offers by email or text. Email boxes are ticked when you first see them (untick to say no); text boxes are never ticked for you. Texts need your mobile number and your agreement, aren't a condition of buying, and you can reply STOP to any of them. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can change all of these choices on your account page. We keep a record of each choice (what we asked, when, and from which connection) to show we only contact people who agreed, including after you delete your account, so an opt-out stays respected.
How long we keep it
While your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove your profile, cart, favorites and login details right away. Order records are kept (with your name removed) as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically 7 years.
Your choices
- Download a copy of your data, or delete your account, from your account page.
- Turn off new-message emails there or with the link in any such email. Order and security emails always go out.
- Stop marketing emails or texts from us or any shop on your account page, with the link in any marketing email, or by replying STOP to a text.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have more rights, such as correcting your data or objecting to how it's used. Contact joosterman@gmail.com.
